A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) type, cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b, 4c, Plate 46, (AD c. 80-120): The brooch is copper alloy and incomplete. The wings are semi-cylindrical terminating with incomplete perforated wing caps. On both sides a ridge is present at the shoulder between the wings and the bow. The wings are undecorated. At the junction of the wings and bow head has the remains of an integral hook which would have held the chord in place. The axis bar, spring and pin are all missing. Roman (AD c. 69-96) T-shaped brooch: The copper-alloy brooch has a cylindrical crossbar with a copper-alloy axis bar within. The crossbar has a central slot on the reverse to allow the pin to be hinged, and only a fragment of the pin remains. The outer face of the wings is undecorated and are slightly incomplete. An incomplete late Iron Age to early Roman copper-alloy strip bow brooch, dating to c. AD 45 - 120. The wings, bow head and partial bow remain. All other features have been lost. The wings are formed of integral rolled tabs with a central notch between, which would have housed the axis bar and pin. The bow has a flat rectangular cross section and tapers slightly away from the head before terminating in a worn break.
