A copper-alloy artefact of uncertain date and purpose. The piece is roughly pointed-oval in plan, with a pair of opposing, hooked projections approximately one third of the way along its sides. A circular-sectioned moulding extends outwards from the centre of the upper surface, with which it forms an angle of 90 degrees. This projection tapers slightly, towards its rounded distal end. A copper alloy Iron Age or Roman type C penannular brooch dating to the period c.100 BC - AD 100. The brooch is broadly circular in plan and circular in section. It measures 23.05mm in length, 30.68 mm maximum width and weighs 3.57g. The brooch consists of a single piece of copper-alloy bent into a circular frame which terminates at either end in an inward facing spiral. The pin bar wraps around the frame and extends into a triangular shaft. The pin is intact and measures 27.70mm in length. The brooch is similar in design to no. 1282 in Hattatt, pp. 340, fig. 199.
