Modern iron coin dating from AD1918. In 1918, the Rhineland town of Duren issued ten pfennig notgeld honouring the veterans of World War I. Another, even more common, variety (Funck 105.8) exists without the "SD" under the soldier's chin. Recorded mintage: 501,500 (Funck 105.7) and 1,100,750 (Funck 105.8). A medieval iron candle holder dating AD 1270-1400. The object consists of a single cup, formed by folding a rectangular iron sheet with rounded ends to create a cylinder. There are two stems, both are squared and taper to a point but have been rounded but wear. There is a large amount of sediment contained within the cup. Examples of medieval candle holders can be found in Egan (1998, 142-143) though this example seems to be a hybrid of the straight-stem and the right-angled stem types. Probably a contemporary copy of an Iron Age silver unit consisting of an iron core silver washed now heavily corroded. The iron core has blown and much of the silver plate has broken away. No further detail can be determined.
