An incomplete and corroded post-Medieval copper-alloy and gilded anthropomorphic mount (1600-1700). The mount is broadly pear-shaped in plan (pointed end at the bottom) with a finial at the top and a three-pointed splayed terminal at the bottom. Moulded decoration at the front is in the form of a plain border enclosing a human mask. The mask has a severe expression and has a distinctive fringe. The inside edges of the loops and the outside edge of the main curve are bevelled from a central ridge, due to filing down the casting seams.The central rectangular section has an uneven break. Approximately 75% of the handle is present, consisting of one of the animal head terminals, and a vertical and horizontal shaft. The other animal head terminal and a vertical shaft are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The horizontal and vertical shafts are rectangular in cross-section (7.5 x 6.2mm). Copper alloy with enamel mount. Cast symmetrical mount comprising a central hexagonal plate flanked by opposed elongated collared lugs, each with a drilled attachment hole of diameter 3mm. The plate bears the device of three cinquefoil florets springing from a small tapered receptacle against a parti-coloured enamel ground, mid blue to the right and [now] green to the left.
