An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (flat wing ends type, Midlands) dating from the late first through to second century AD. The brooch has a thick rounded head with short stubby wings that has a linear moulding around each terminal. At the reverse junction of the head and the wings is a hook that would have helped tension the axis bar for the spring mechanism. The brooch has a tapered bow and foot-knob with short rounded wings with coiled spring secured by a forward facing hook on the top of the head, in the Colchester B style. The spring is incomplete with the pin missing. About halfway down the length of the bow is a short row of four teeth, leading to this type of brooch being nicknamed the 'sawtooth'. An incomplete and corroded post-Medieval copper-alloy and gilded anthropomorphic mount (1600-1700). The mount is broadly pear-shaped in plan (pointed end at the bottom) with a finial at the top and a three-pointed splayed terminal at the bottom. Moulded decoration at the front is in the form of a plain border enclosing a human mask. The mask has a severe expression and has a distinctive fringe. Elizabeth I shilling (judging by the size of the coin remaining after clipping) and the fact that no rose is present behind the bust. Inner circle on the ob is beaded. The shilling is of the sixth issue and the bust is type 6b as the very faint outline of the ear can sill be seen on the bust. Ob legend would have read as ELIZAB D G ANG FR ET HIB REGI. Neolithic, patinated off white flint, leaf shaped arrow head, fashioned from a secondary flake off a beach pebble. It has been bifacially worked with removals to 80% of its surface. The centre of the ventral appears to retain a polished surface. This may be a fortuitous result of some form of flaking, but there are no sign of conchoidal rippling so this is unlikely to be the result of artificial flaking. The height of the dorsal ridge has been reduced and the proximal end thinned by invasive, scaled, low-angled retouch. Dates from c1600 to c800 BC. It appears to have a flat hump-shaped body like a brooch, possibly, and a small loop at one end which may be the head. The lug may be pierced, but this is uncertain. With the present evidence, the object can, unfortunately, not be identified.
