Copper alloy jetton. Hammered French Jetton, probably issue of c.1475-1500; Barnard (1981, French jettons no. 52) cites a comparable obverse minted in Paris dated to 1488. Obverse description: Lozenge with Arms of France Ancient [four lis], a pellet between each side and the circumferential legend, which is possibly punctuated by crowns. Copper alloy with enamel mount. Cast symmetrical mount comprising a central hexagonal plate flanked by opposed elongated collared lugs, each with a drilled attachment hole of diameter 3mm. The plate bears the device of three cinquefoil florets springing from a small tapered receptacle against a parti-coloured enamel ground, mid blue to the right and [now] green to the left. The object is now gently curved. The decorative use of enamel was especially characteristic of 13th-century Limoges work, while the three flowers could allude to the Holy Trinity. Greenstone polished axe, reworked into waisted form. Polished Group 6 axehead fragment comprising a crescentic cutting edge and c.30mm of the original sides of the axe meeting its ends. Beyond this point, pecking has transformed a probable originally oval form of lentoid section by forming a marked waist or in-swing. Lead cloth seal. Pair of cast discs linked by sprue and clamped together. One side bears the motif of a bishop's mitre within a tressure with trefoils or lis on its cusps. The other side bears a W (or possibly M) with an annulet on either side within a pelleted circle. Patinated overall. The mitre was among the badges associated with the German city of Augsburg, noted for its fustian cloths. An early post-medieval date is suggested by the letter style.
