A cylindrical chape made up of stamped copper alloy sheet, dating to the 15th-17th century. The base is a circular disc fitted into the base, 7mm in diameter. The upper edge has V-shaps cut out of it as decoration and is mis-shaped due to post depositional damage. The longitudinal seam is no longer held together by sodler. The decoration is floral with a central row of raised pellets flanked by solid lines, and a similar sequence of pellets and solid lines at the top edge, leaving a blank area of 13mm before the edge.
One of similar style has been recorded on this database at NARC-BDB0B7. These types of chapes could be used for narrow blades, i.e., rapiers, but are just as likley to find use to sheath unberellas, walking canes, and the like.

A cast, copper alloy strap fitting from a sword belt dating from the post-Medieval period, AD 1500-1700. It is the hooked plate from a sword belt. It is sub-rectangular in shape, tapering slightly towards the ornate hooked end where it is decorated on each side with a shallow, v-shaped notch followed by a semi-circular cut-out, terminating is a fleur de lis, the central feather of which is broken off, but which would have extended into a wide hook. The broader end is biconcave. A broad, central groove runs down the full length of the upper side of the artefact. There are two rivet holes in this central groove; one just inside the broader edge, which contains the remains of a ferrous rivet, and one between the v shaped notches. The plate is fluted, with a wide shallow concave flute on each side of the central groove.
The artefact has a rough, light green patina. It is 35.6mm long, 18.9mm wide and 1.7mm thick. It weighs 4.22g.

Greenstone polished axe, reworked into waisted form. Polished Group 6 axehead fragment comprising a crescentic cutting edge and c.30mm of the original sides of the axe meeting its ends. Beyond this point, pecking has transformed a probable originally oval form of lentoid section by forming a marked waist or in-swing. This might have facilitated a tied fastening, though its security was perhaps compromised by loss or damage to the butt end, which is probably truncated and certainly fractured. The waisted form recurs on a polished axe dated to between the Later Neolithic and Early Bronze Age from Sandbach, Cheshire (LVPL-0E5426) whose illustration suggests manufacture from similar material. Suggested date: Neolithic (4000-2350 BC), with reworking probably in the later Neolithic (2700-2350 BC).

A medieval copper alloy strap end dating to the 14th century. The object is formed of a single sheet of copper alloy which has been folded widthways. It would have been connected to the strap by two rivets, which are no longer present. The rivet holes have been drilled from one side and are located along the open edge on both sides of the object. One side of the strap end appears to taper from the bend to the opposing edge. The object has some damage and has developed a light-mid green patina.
A similar example can be found in Egan and Pritchard (1991, no. 594) though that example only has a single rivet connecting the strap. The example in Egan and Pritchard dates to the late 14th century.

Copper alloy and glass fob seal matrix. Oval panel of transparent smoky yellow glass within a pressed metal gilded frame. The glass is engraved with the facing bust of a balding clean shaven man with sideburns wearing a cravatte or similar neckwear with a high collared garment; possibly with a buttoned shirt below. A six character legend in Roman capitals identifies this as BRIGHT, probably referring to Radical campaigner John Bright (1811-1889). This is the second signet bearing Bright's named image from the area - NLM-9D36A6 being the first. Richard Cobden and John Bright were prominent in the campaign for repeal of the Corn Laws and other Radical causes. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1840-1880.
Length: 20.1mm, Width: 16.3mm, Thickness (frame - glass is less): 4.4mm, Weight: 2.85gms.

A copper alloy (probably spelter) medal struck to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. It was originally circular, though now heavily damaged around the circumference. The obverse has a bust of Queen Victoria and would have originally bourne the legend VICTORIA QUEEN AND EMPRESS 1837 JUBILEE 1887. The reverse has the legend IN COMMEMORATION OF THE JUBILEE OF H.G.M QUEEN VICTORIA around the Preston Corporation shield.
