Greenstone polished axe, reworked into waisted form. Polished Group 6 axehead fragment comprising a crescentic cutting edge and c.30mm of the original sides of the axe meeting its ends. Beyond this point, pecking has transformed a probable originally oval form of lentoid section by forming a marked waist or in-swing. This might have facilitated a tied fastening, though its security was perhaps compromised by loss or damage to the butt end, which is probably truncated and certainly fractured. Mesolithic to early Neolithic tertiary flake of off white translucent quartz. Probably debitage but possibly a poorly made bladelet or microlith as there is retouch (short, sub-parallel, abrupt) along one mesal. It has been snapped off at the proximal end and the distal terminates in flawed stone. Dates to between c8000 and c3500 BC. The length is 10mm, width 5mm, and the weight is 0.11g.
