Copper alloy mount fragment. Openwork mount resembling the upper part of a wheel headed or Celtic cross with pointed ends to its head and engrailed arms, and with three drilled fixing holes of diameter 2.4mm passing at the intersections of arc and arms. The lower part of the object is broken at the site of a fourth fixing hole and the arc around the upper part of the cross does not apparently continue - though a finely serrated edge to the edge of the object here might hint that it has been carefully trimmed. The Celtic Cross is a motif associated with Roman Catholic belief, with a sp…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead alloy possible pin head. Cast sub-spherical object with a round collar with an aperture of diameter 3mm, bearing rust staining, probably from an iron or steel shank (now lost). The sides of the sphere are casually flattened; grooving also appears but may merely represent post-depositional damage. Patinated overall. The shank thickness implied by the size of the collared aperture is larger than that of Early Post-Medieval pins with lead heads, and may suggest this was attached to a correspondingly larger and perhaps more recent object such as a hat pin. Suggested date: Post-Mediev…

Lead seal. Cast Meat Seal bearing a Star of David in relief on one side, and the numeral 92 on the other. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern, 1850-1950. Diameter: 14.3mm, Thickness: 2.8mm, Weight: 2.00gms.

Copper alloy clasp. Cast annular frame with two internal lugs and a corresponding internal ridge along the opposite side suggesting a function as a clasp. A rectangular strap loop is set to one side, accommodating a strap (now lost) of width c.36mm. Object type: STEELYARD WEIGHT
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead possible steelyard weight. Cast [originally] triangular weight, made in an open mould with a former inserted to produce an aperture of diameter 3mm in the broader top side (as cast). This appears to have made provision for the insertion of a suspension loop, a usual feature of Roman steelyard weights. This object has been neatly truncated by an angled cut. As the object is patinated all over, this alteration took place in antiquity. Suggested date: possibly Roman, 43-410. Width: 41.6mm, Height: 26.6mm, Thickness: 15.4mm, Weight: 111.82gms.
