Part of a post medieval cast copper-alloy buckle frame, probably originally asymmetrical. The frame has one rectangular loop surviving, the second loop is missing but was probably D shaped. The outer edge of the rectangular loop is extended into points in the corners and a rounded point in the centre and has a groove running down its length on the front, parallel with the side. The other loop is almost completely missing with just stubs remaining ending in old breaks. The strap bar is narrowed and slightly recessed. The back is flat and plain, the inner edge straight and the outer edg…

Post Medieval cast copper alloy double loop asymmetrical buckle frame with one oval and one trapezoid loop. There are projecting lobed knops at either end of the recessed strap bar. The loops are triangular in section with bevelled outer sides and a flat back and straight inner side. There is a small indent in the centre of the oval loop creating a pin rest. The pin is missing. It is 28.1mm long, 16.1mm wide and 3.1mm thick; it weighs 1.79 grams. Whitehead (2003:91) illustrates a very similar example, no. 564, which he dates to c. AD 1575-1700.

a copper alloy shoe buckle with a maker's mark reading: "W / (W)OT(F)" on the chape. It dates from about AD 1690 - 1720. The frame is rectangular in plan and curved in profile. It is drilled for a separate iron spindle upon which is the copper alloy pin and stud chape. The stud from the chape is mssing, but was a separate piece rather than being integral. The maker's mark is stamped onto the chape. The buckle has a smooth grey shiny patina. Compare number 663 on page 103 of Whitehead's Buckles. This appears to be the first example of this maker on the database.

A badly corroded copper alloy annular buckle probably of a type called a disc-on-pin brooch. It has a corroded circular frame with a constriction for the pin. An unusual feature of the frame is two recesses on the reverse of the frame. These would have held a separate narrow bar, which would have divided the circle in half, forming a cross with the pin. The pin and bar do not survive except for a tiny fragment of one end of the bar which is copper alloy but of a different composition to the frame. Other brooches with an additional bar also have an elaborate pin with a disc or ring mou…

A broken and incomplete post-medieval copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame with trapezoidal loops. Only one loop remains, with only a small section of one of the sides remaining from the other. The loop is rectangular in cross section. The outer edge of the loop extend into a point at its centre, flanked by rounded knops at the corners; both of these latter are now abraded. There is a groove running lengthways down the front of the extant outer edge which would have acted as a pin rest. There are shallowly projecting knops at the ends of the narrowed pin bar; the pin is missing. Th…
