A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.f. Dating AD c. 80-120. The brooch is copper alloy and is incomplete. The wings are semi-cylindrical terminating with perforated wing caps. The wings are undecorated. At the junction of the wings and bow head has an integral hook which holds the chord in place. The copper alloy axis bar has the iron spring coiled around it but it is not certain how many times it is coiled due to corrosion. The pin is missing. The wings are decorated with double-stranded linear grooves. Roman (AD c. 69-96) T-shaped brooch: The cylindrical crossbar is formed by being curled around the iron axis bar forming a horizontal seam on the reverse of the crossbar. Incomplete copper-alloy Roman Dolphin brooch of spring pin fitting type. Only part of the head and arch of the bow survive. The head of the brooch has the classic swollen hump appearance of a Dolphin Brooch but the lugs for attaching the axis bar and spring are missing. The pin, spring and axis bar are all also missing. Incomplete Early Saxon copper alloy Supporting-arm brooch (Stützarmfibel), the spring, pin, all of one pierced lug, part of the other, and the footplate missing. The front of the supporting arm or head is decorated with transverse grooves, and the bow with a pair of edge notches, a pair of transverse grooves and a single groove just above the break. The breaks at the lugs are recent, that across the base of the bow old. Böhme 1974, Typ Mahndorf. Width 27.5mm. Extant length 23mm. c.420 - c.480 AD.

A Roman copper-alloy knee brooch, dating from the mid 2nd to mid 3rd centuries AD. The copper-alloy spring is contained within a cylinder, damaged on the underside. A transverse groove separates this cylinder from the top of the arched bow, the latter being of 'D-shaped' section, with concave sides and a decorative vertical ridge at the centre of its upper surface. A transverse moulding with two parallel ridges marks the transition between the bow and the damaged, flat-sectioned foot. Length: 23.4mm; width: 14.5mm; weight: 5.4g.
