A silver Medieval soldino of Doge Agostin Barbarigo of Venice dating to the period 1486-1501. From the late 14th to the 16th century, these small silver coins known as 'galley halfpennies' circulated widely, but illegally, in England as small coinage was in short supply. They were brought to England by 'galley men' trading wine and other goods, and their name may derive from Galley Quay in Thames Street, London, which was reputedly the centre for their distribution. During the 15th century, they were made illegal many times, with the final pronouncement in 1519/20.

Object type: RAPIER
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A fragment of Middle Bronze Age (c.1600-1000 BC) rapier or spear, consisting of the very tip of the object only. It measures 23.71x8.22x3.09mm and weighs 1.44g. At the flat, old break the cross-section is diamond-shaped. The surface of the metal has a smooth brown patina with pitting marks. The object is slightly bent in profile and has a prominent mid-rib. Peter Reavill comments "I think I prefer this as a rapier as the central rib shouldn't go to the tip - unless there is an oval in the bottom of the section which would be the tip of the socket" (March 2014 pers.comm.).

An incomplete copper alloy Early Medieval (c.1000-1100) Anglo-Scandinavian horse harness fitting. Overall, it measures 28.43mm in length, 25.95mm in width and weighs 5.33g. The surviving loop is oval in shape and has three knops protuding from its sides. From the fourth side projects an arm which would have linked it to the central boss and the other loop. This arm is D-shaped in section. cf.…
