Heavily constructed copper alloy lobed plate with two piercings through which domed rivets pass. Its date and function are yet to be determined with any confidence. At first glance it appears to be a fixing plate for a hinge. However this is unlikely, but not impossible, as both rivets appear complete and there doesn't seem to be a large enough gap for the plate to have been attached to anything wooden. A cast copper alloy Romano-British mount, possibly for a vessel or item of furniture. The mount is three dimensional and depicts the bust of a bearded and horned male, probably a local representation of the Greek god Pan, who became the Roman god Faunus. The bust is well cast with all facial details clear; the horns are represnted by round stumps on top of the head and what appears to be hair above the temples; the horn stumps appear deliberate rather than being the remains of missing elements. A post-Medieval, cast, copper-alloy assymetrical mount with two, pointed, integrally-cast rivets or lugs. (Read pages 28 and 34, nos. 287, 288). The body of the mount is flat and sub-circular in plan with a trefoil-shaped projection of unequal size at each end. On the reverse of each of these projections is an integrally-cast, pointed rivet or lug. Each one has been bent over to secure the mount.
