A cast copper alloy headstud brooch dating to the Roman period, c. AD 70 to 150. The head and bow of the brooch are made from one sheet of copper alloy which has been folded to create lugs for the hinge. The object has been bent so the hinge mechanism is now at the front of the brooch. There is a hole through the sheet metal to allow for the pin, part of which is still present. The sheet metal tapers away from the head and there is a large stud not far from the head. Crushed and distorted gold lock ring. Triangular in section, the ring has one plain sheet gold face and two faces comprising twisted gold wires probably joined by soldering (see scientific report). The sheet gold is folded at the terminals to form the side-plates. The ring is hollow. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of the wire lock ring by the British Museum's Scientific Research section indicated a surface composition for the sheet gold face of approximately 86% gold, 11% silver and 3% copper. Fragment of Late Saxon buckle frame, a bar with stubs of the narrow sides and of two wider projections continuing the sides. These latter features cast in the in the form of Borre-style animal heads with ears but no other discernable features and rounded snouts (4.5mm thick). The missing frame was probably D-shaped with a third animal head at the centre of the outside edge. Cf. examples from Bracon Ash, Norfolk (NMS-35B8F3) and Cherwell, Oxfordshire (BERK-0BE984). Width 38mm. Surviving length 14mm. 10th century.

Possibly a buckle or brooch with a lozengiform frame and bosses in each corner. Boss 11 x 11mm, 3.5mm thick. Width of bar 4mm.

Fragment of an unidentified copper alloy Roman object. Rectangular-sectioned trefoil projection (one small central foil with a longer, downward curving foil to either side) on the outside of an originally circular frame almost all of which is missing. For a more complete but still unidentified example, see BH-88BC87. Perhaps part of an elaborate key handle. Width (from outside edge of projection to inside edge of frame) 18mm. Thickness 4mm. Width of projection (tip to tip of side foils) 17mm.
