Gold finger ring with an expanded oval flat bezel engraved with a bird with long tail feathers. The bird is essentially made up of three engraved sections: the head, body and tail, with two linear bent legs beneath the body. The hoop is oval in profile and D-shaped in section, tapering to a more circular section at the opposite side to the bezel. The hoop is plain on the exterior and interior with no deliberate marks, but there are several nicks along both edges and a dent on the inside of the hoop, opposite the bezel. An incomplete cast copper alloy mount, possibly from a horse harness decoration, dating to the late Post Medieval period, circa AD1600-1700. A stub of an integrally cast spike is present on the reverse at both ends of the mount - 2 spikes in total. The position of the stubs at the extreme ends of the mount suggests that the object may have been a belt or strap slide. In plan, the mount has a lozenge-shaped body with rounded protrusions at two opposing ends. The face of the mount is concave and the reverse is convex.
