A damaged but complete medieval circular lead seal or 'papal bulla' of Pope Nicholas III (AD 1277-1280). The obverse depicts the busts of St Paul and St Peter, each within a pelleted border. On the left, St Paul's beard is portrayed as being long, straight and pointed, whilst his hair is straight and swept back. On the right, St Peter's beard and hair are shown to be curly by the use of pellets. Between the busts is a cross pattee supported on a staff. A cast copper-alloy strap slide of Roman date. It has a heart-shaped plate that has a domed front and concave back face. At te top centre of the front face is a moulded vertical rib, and at its base the plate terminates with a transverse moulded ridge. The back face has an integrally cast loop that is rectangular in form and section and runs from top centre to bottom centre of the back face. The entire object has a mid green patina. A copper alloy composite buckle plate dating to the early medieval period. The buckle plate is rectangular in plan and comprises two plates; the top plate is cast in openworkwork and depicts a bird (discussed further below), while the reverse plate is a plain and flat piece of copper alloy riveted to the faceplate.
