The diameter is 24mm and the weight is 5.61g.

A complete but worn tin farthing of James II dating to AD 1685-1687 (James died in 1688). The tin farthing is complete with the copper alloy plug (although this appears white like lead) still in the centre. The coin is corroded but part of the external inscription edge remains however this is mostly unreadable. The obverse and reverse are clear enough to read most of the inscriptions. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 under Charles II to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-u…

A Post Medieval tin farthing of William and Mary, issued in AD 1690. Obverse depicts the busts of William and Mary facing right; legend reads: [GV]LIELMVS ET MARIA. The reverse depicts a seated Britannia holding a spear in left arm and resting left arm on shield; the legend reads: BRI[TAN]NIA. The copper-alloy plug is visible on both surfaces of the coin. The coin has severe circumferential damage and is missing a portion of its lower edge. Cf. Spink 2013, p. 357, no. 3451.
