A complete copper alloy awl or punch probably either Roman or medieval in date. The functional end of the awl is rounded and bulbous and narrows towards the terminal, which is now flattened from use. The opposite end is rectangular; approximately two-thirds of the awl is rectangular in shape and can be interpreted as the tang end of the tool. The tang tapers in thickness to its terminal; some similar tools are thought to have been mulit-functional (this narrowed end functioning as a chisel-like tool), however the edges and end of the reverse end of the awl are unworn, suggesting that …

A complete but worn lead alloy (possibly pewter) token of the late medieval or early post-medieval period. The token appears unifaced, bearing an image of a windmill or mill sails on one face only. The token is large and thick and the lead alloy may be pewter as its appearance is different to other lead tokens commonly found. This would date the token from the second half of the 15th century when pewter tokens were manufactured. The appearance of mill sails is not rare but these are not particularly common pieces; it is likely that the depiction of a mill or mill sails related to grin…

A complete but worn tin farthing of James II dating to AD 1685-1687 (James died in 1688). The tin farthing is complete with the copper alloy plug (although this appears white like lead) still in the centre. The coin is corroded but part of the external inscription edge remains however this is mostly unreadable. The obverse and reverse are clear enough to read most of the inscriptions. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 under Charles II to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-u…
