A medieval (1350-1500) book clasp of Howsam type A.1.3. A copper alloy mounted book clasp. The clasp is cast in one piece, but is composed of three components; a lug, a flat perforated body and bar. The bar forms one side of a sub-rectangular loop, which protrudes from and is integral to the flat oval or D-shaped body, which has a large central circular aperture. This aperture would allow a stud which was fixed to the book to be inserted to hold the strap in place whilst the strap kept the book closed. Two copper alloy Roman coins that are fused together by corrosion products binding the sandy soil. One is a sestertius and one a dupondius.
The sestertius is of Trajan and dates from AD 102 - 117 (Reece Period 5). The edge is damaged and the reverse is illegible. Probably mint of Rome.

A lead cloth seal dating from about AD 1750 to 1900. The seal has two discs joined by a strip. A regular oval tab projecting from the centre of one disc passes through a hole in the centre of the other disc and is then stamped.
On one side are the words YORK AND SHE[EPSHANKS] as a border surrounding the word LEEDS in the centre of the field. The back of the seal has faint scratch marks. Seals of this design date from the late 18th or 19th century (Egan pers.comm).

Half of a copper alloy mould, probably for making a button and dating from the 18th or 19th century.
The mould is sub-square in plan and rectangular in section. There is a small circular hole in each corner (1.5mm diameter); these would have held 'posts' or corrosponded with pins on the missing part of the mould to enure that the two pats of the mould were correctly aligned.

Roman copper alloy elaborate plate brooch with enamel. The brooch has a central pointed oval flanked by pentagonal ends. The pointed oval is set cross ways with the points to each side of the brooch and has a raised ring in the centre. The ring contains traces of white enamel and there are some possible traces of blue enamel in the recessed field of the pointed oval.

A corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount in the shape of a six petalled flower. It has six round petals surrounding a circular centre. The front is slightly convex, though having suffered wear and corrosion. From the centre of the back projects a small square sectioned attachment stub which was once a longer spike. The mount is 13.8mm by 12.7mm, and is 1.8mm thick excluding the spike, 2.7mm including it, and weighs 1.25grams. It has corroded to a dark-brown colour with patches of lighter corrosion product in places.

The mount is an openwork sub lozenge in shape but slightly longer than wider, the ends terminating in trefoils formed of pellets in low relief. A post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount with single integral rivet on the reverse. Only around two thirds of the mount remain, the bottom part missing from an old break. The mount is generally lozenge shaped in outline, with cusping to the edges. Part of a medieval lead Papal bulla, possibly of Boniface IX (1389-1404) converted into a pendant or bead. An sub-oval section has been cut out of the much larger circular bulla and pierced top and bottom to allow it to be suspended. Medieval cast copper alloy heraldic harness pendant. The pendant is shield shaped with a straight top and convex sides which meet at a point at the bottom. From the middle of the top edge projects a transverse suspension loop. The loop has a rectangular sectioned shank wideneing to a ring shaped terminal..The front is decorated with: Or three chevrons gules; ie three red chevrons on a gold background, traces survive of the gilding for the gold background. It is 37.8mm long including the loop, 21mm wide and 6.1mm thick including the loop, 2.2mm excluding it. The pendant weighs 6.28g.

The mount is shaped into a naturalistic three dimensional head with prominent muzzle and distinct eyes, brow ridges, ears, beard and a flatter mane the irregular outline of which forms the edge of the mount. At the top there is part of a broken circle. This is in the same plane as the mount. Fragment of Roman copper alloy finger ring which has been broken at the shoulders leaving only a very short section of the hoop on each side of the bezel. The remaining fragment of hoop is slightly D shaped in section with a slightly convex front and flatter inner side. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy spur of post-medieval date (17th century). The terminal take an oblique figure-of-eight form with central hole; this has broken through at the outermost part. In the other end the arm has a flat oval cross-section and curves gradually to the point where it has broken. The fragment measures 76.3mm by 17.6mm, by 3.4mm thick, and and weighs 9.70g.
