An incomplete copper-alloy Roman finger ring, probably third century in date. Only the shoulders, bezel of the ring and glass intaglio survive, the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn. The shoulders are 'keeled' or angular and expand to encompass the oval shaped bezel. The bezel itself is raised and has an oval intaglio, made from dark blue glass, set within. This intaglio is taller than the height of the bezel. The fragment measures 21.15mm in external diameter, 16.11mm in internal diameter, 10.82mm in width, 5.57mm in thickness, 3.38g in weight. T…

It is 11.06 mm wide at its bezel, but narrows to 4.6 mm at the back of the hoop. It weighs 5.35g. Apart from the slightly bent band which has caused it to be wider to the sides and shorter in height, the ring is complete and in good condition. The band widens to a sub-rectangular bezel which is engraved in the centre with a cross flanked by what appear to sun rays (or possibly palm leaves) and two dot…
