Iron Spur fragment. Wrought Iron heel from a spur which retains traces of surface gilding. A tapering round section projection is probably broken at a bifurcation to retain a rowel (lost); if so, this would imply a short rowel box. The appearance of gilding may respect medieval knightly convention, though a short rowel box would be inappropriate for use with armour. Suggested date: Later Medieval, 1350-1500.
Width: 45.2mm, Height (at heel): 17.5mm, Thickness (close to heel): 6.7mm, Length (remaining rowel box): 15.3mm, Weight: 21.54gms.
