A stone axehead roughout made from Langdale epidotized tuff stone and dating from the Neolithic Period, 4000 BC - 2350 BC. The roughout is ovoid in plan and S-shaped in profile, with a sub-rectangular section. The roughout has knapped edges and it is roughly axe-shaped, but it was not completed. The faces are still bulbous and the surface is rough: is has not been polished. Work was discontinued and the roughout was discarded for unknown reasons. An incomplete early Anglo-Saxon S-shaped brooch. The brooch is made of copper-alloy and dates from the fifth or sixth century. The zoomorphic plate brooch comprises the curved S-shaped body of the brooch and one terminal which is in the form of a bird's head. The beak is curved downward and is open, possibly holding something. There are openwork gaps between the upper and lower beak and between the lower beak and the neck. A lead alloy toy; a hornbook dating from 1500 - 1700. On the front face is the alphabet over five lines: ABCDEF / GHIKLM / NOPQR / STVWX / YZ The space after the Z appears to be filled with two or three curved lines. There is a ladder like border between each line, and at the base. The reverse has the letters TS in a central panel, but the S is backwards. The panel is edged with a line in relief and is surrounded by concentric borders. Half of a lead alloy Medieval papal bulla probably dating from AD 1254 - 1261. It is probably a bulla of Pope Alexander IV (1254-1261). The seal is truncated vertically and half of the seal is missing. The obverse depicts the heads of St Peter and St Paul facing each other, with the surviving head being surrounded by a beaded border. The letters: SPE are visible above. The reverse lettering on three lines: A[LE]/XAN[DER]/PP[IIII] with an omega placed above the PP, which indicates that this abbreviation stands for 'Pastor Pastorum' or 'Shepherd of Shepherds'.
