Part of Late Iron Age to Early Roman rotary quern. The surviving piece represents approximately one third of the originally ring-shaped upper stone of classic 'bee-hive' form. The outer sides angle inwards, towards the top. The inverted-conical hopper is centrally located and there is also a conical handle socket which extends horizontally through the stone, from the outer face to just short of the hopper. A Roman copper-alloy ear scoop. The flat-sectioned body, slightly bent, is 'leaf shaped', the sides bowing outwards at the top before becoming parallel, tapering towards the bottom, where there is an oval scoop. A line of herringbone incisions extends vertically down the centre of the upper surface. The neck is located at the top and consists of a solid cylinder, separated from the body by a simple moulding. An incomplete copper alloy Small Long Brooch of cross potent form dating to to 6th century AD (500 - 575 AD). Cast bow brooch with tripartite cruciform head with three pelta shaped arms, separated from a plain curved mid bow by a horizontal rib. The bow is D-shaped in cross section and is broken at 10mm from the base of the head. There is a single lug placed on teh reverse for holding a pin, now missing. An incomplete copper alloy harness fitting of late Iron Age to early Roman date. The fitting is a terret ring which is circular in plan and section. A bulbous collar is present projecting from one edge of the fitting with a worn base. The opposite side of the terret ring is broken with part of the frame having been lost to extremely worn breaks. Terret rings were used as rein guides on chariots or carts and were attached to vehicle yokes probably by leather straps. The break in the frame most probably represents the point at which the reigns rubbed on the object, wearing it down. The …
