Highly abraded fragment of a medieval copper alloy mount, probably from a box or casket, a type of "decorative stripping" associated with high status sites (Barton and Holden 1977, 60). From a curving length of ovoid cross-section and broken at both ends springs a straight piece ending in an incomplete lobe pierced for attachment. No gilding, which is normal on such mounts, has survived. Extant length 18.5mm. Thickness 1.5 - 1.8mm. 12th - early 13th century.
