A rim sherd of a ceramic vessel of probable Roman date, AD 43 - 410. The fabric is fairly soft, the breaks are abraded and it is light grey in colour. It has frequent angular white and light grey inclusions (quartz?) and some mica; it is probably a local greyware. The rim had an internal diameter of about 190mm. The rim is inverted but folded down outwards to form a beaded rim. There are two circumferential grooves decorating the area below the rim. The wall has a thickness of 6.6mm.

The rim is everted and forms a thick flange 28mm wide. The wall has a thickness of 6.8mm.

The wall meets the base at an angle of about 70 degrees. The wall has a thickness of 10.7mm. A small sub-circular hole or scar in the base may be the result of the vessel having been stacked in the kiln.

Two wall sherds of ceramic vessels of Roman date, AD 43 - 410. The fabric is hard, irregular and is mid grey in colour. It has frequent white and light grey inclusions (quartz?) and some mica. There are three circumferential lines decorating the larger sherd which comes from the shoulder of a vessel. The sherds are probably a local greyware. Large sherd: 74.75mm long, 58mm wide and 9mm thick. 40.76g. Small sherd: 42.8mm long, 38.46mm wide and 11.76mm thick. 18.9g.

The wall meets the rim at an angle of about 120 degrees. The wall has a thickness of 5.13mm. The internal and external surfaces are wiped and smooth but are undecorated. The rim is folded over the edge of the vessel leaving a hollow cavity in the everted rim.

Two medieval ceramic vessel fragments; two wall sherds. The fabric is fairly hard with some abrasion on the breaks and is wheel thrown. The fabric is a light grey colour with a mottled brown glaze on the outer face. The fabric contains sparse (about 5%) dull black rounded inclusions, possibly iron ore and occasional large pieces of stone. The larger sherd is 57.28mm long, 51.24mm wide, and 8.24mm thick, it weighs 28.43g. The smaller sherd is 37.97mm long, 26.62mm wide, and 9.23mm thick, it weighs 16.15g.

A medieval ceramic vessel fragment, a handle sherd from a jug. The fabric is fairly hard and is light grey except for the external surfaces which are light red. The irregular fabric contains various poorly sorted inclusions, probably mainly stone and grit. The outer face is glazed with a brown glaze and is also decorated with three longitudinal grooves, giving the handle a fluted appearance. The handle is sub-oval in section.

A lead alloy spindle whorl of Early Medieval to Post Medieval date, about 500 - 1600 AD. The whorl is of Coppergate Form A1 with one flat face and one domed face and is not decorated. It has a central aperture with a diameter of 8.9mm and there is no cavity in the side wall. It has some patinated scratches and grooves, and a more recent scrape. It has a white patina.
