A fragment of a copper alloy Roman (AD c.43-100) Colchester derivative (dolphin) brooch, consisting of just the wings, a fragment of the spring and a short length of the brooch. It measures 22.35mm long, 20.80mm wide and 9.95mm thick. It weighs 4.06g. The wings are C-shaped in section with a central lug projecting from the top through which the spring passes. All that remains of the spring is the straight section that passes through the central lug and the beginning of one of the coils. It is missing the terminals of the wings, the majority of the spring, the bow, foot, catch plate and pin due to old breaks, now worn The wings are folded over to be cylindrical in form and undecorated. Copper alloy Brooch fragment. Lower bow of a Trumpet brooch, probably Mackreth type TR1. A bow with central aris and grooves down its sides extends from an indeterminate mid bow moulding to a drum shaped pedestal foot. An unpierced catch plate projects from the back of the bow, with the stub of a fold at its end. Suggested date: Early Roman, 80-160. Length: 28.8mm, Width (pedestal): 6.1mm, Thickness (base of mid bow moulding): 4.5mm, Weight: 3.59gms.

Copper alloy Brooch fragment. The lower part of the curving concavo-convex mid bow and the adjacent upper foot of a Cruciform Brooch. A central groove runs down the central part of the bow. A flat rectangular panel separates bow from foot, and the stub of a catch plate remains behind the foot. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 500-600. Length: 24.0mm, Width: 16.1mm, Thickness: 2.3mm, Weight: 6.41gms.

An incomplete copper alloy annular brooch, of Medieval dating (13th to 14th Centuries AD). Around 75% of the brooch is present, with the pin missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The frame is circular, with a circular cross section. A constriction is present for pin, as the frame is recessed and narrowed in one location. Incomplete Roman copper alloy Dolphin brooch, rearward hook broken, impression of missing spring in solder at both ends on reverse of both damaged wings. Both wings are decorated with a broad groove between two knurled ribs. An incomplete copper alloy headstud brooch of Roman date. The head of the brooch is comprised of narrow rectangular wings which taper to an ovate sectioned bow and terminates in a worn break. The remains of a single lug projects from the reverse of the head and would have housed the pin mechanism. The object is extremely worn though appears undecorated. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is worn. The brooch is 26mm long, 17.8mm wide, 6.9mm thick and weighs 6.3g. Similar examples are illustrated in Hattatt, p.333, fig.192 and are dated to the 2nd Century AD.
