Incomplete post-medieval cast copper alloy figurative mount (1500-1600 AD). The oval-sectioned mount is shaped like an acorn, and has incised decoration on the front to define the acorn cup in the lower half of the mount. At the lowest point of the acorn shape there is a square break. On the reverse of the mount there are two internally-cast rivets; one broken in antiquity. They are spaced opposite sides of the central vertical axis of the mount, with one in the upper half of the acorn and the other in the lower. The mount has a dark olive-green patina with pale concretions. It measur…

A complete Post Medieval cast lead alloy uniface token of Powell Type 2. The token is slightly bent; decorated with a raised letter H on one face within two circles; the other face is undecorated. The token measures 17.61 mm diameter and is 1.56 mm thick and weighs 2.81 grams. Tokens had a wide variety of uses and were easy to manufacture; they are therefore difficult to date precisely outside of archaeological contexts, but those with initials are generally given a Post Medieval date, c.1550-1800 AD.

Copper alloy handle from an unidentified tool or implement with the remains of an iron tang within a split socket. At the proximal end a knopped terminal is decorated with six oblique notches. The main body is of rectangular cross-section but decorated on both broad faces with two rows of closely spaced ovoid, round-based notches. These cease at the start of the socket. That only a 12mm length of the tang is embedded in the socket and that there are no rivets suggest the implement was not used for any very robust purpose. Several similar handles with terminals of various designs have …

A complete but broken, cast copper-alloy buckle, dating to the Post Medieval period (c. 1690-c. 1720 AD). The buckle comprises of an oval frame, separate iron spindle and pin attached to a chape. The insides of the outer edges are curved in plan. At the centre, the frame is thickened and drilled to accommodate the spindle. The chape is now separate to the frame due to corrosion of the iron spindle, although the break is likely to have happened post-deposition. The chape is of the 'cooking pot' type (Whitehead type V); trapezoidal in shape with a triangular spike on the inner side of t…

Possible Post-medieval copper alloy tool, maybe a chisel. There is a bulbous collar stop between the tang and the wide flat blade. The tang appears bent but it may have had a curved handle or been one end of a double bladed tool. The object is corroded. Possibly made for use in an industry were a non sparking tool was desireable, eg for use in maitaining mill machinery. Probably dates to between c1500 and c1900 AD. It also bears similarities to a swivelling 'banner' from Medieval horse harness (such as NMS-810B25). The length is 43mm, the width is 22mm, thickness 11mm, and the weig…
