Copper alloy brooch fragment. Sheet metal back plate from a rosette brooch of composite construction, cf. Mackreth type LEO 8.b. A thin (0.5mm) flat plate bears a slightly splayed foot below the lower part of a disc, all in exactly the same plane. A folded catch plate with a single round drilled hole is made from what appears to be a separate piece of sheet, very neatly brazed to the back of the plate. Following Mackreth (2011, vol. 1 page 31), a separate rosette is thought to be lost from the front of the brooch, along with pin gear. Suggested date: Early Roman, 30-65.
