Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy unidentified object. One terminal survives and is superficially similar to the head of a Roman Colchester derivative bow brooch, as this is the case it will be described as if it is a Roman brooch.
It has a D-shaped section bow fragment, flat wings with rounded terminals. Projecting from the inside face of the wings is a pair of closely set integrally cast large lugs, each with a small circular hole through its base. This hole could have accommodated a bar, perhaps for a pin.
The metal is mid green with patches of black patina, which may be due to burn…

Record ID: LIN-4C9F07
Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Fragment of an iron spear-shaped object. It has an incomplete, conical socket with an external diameter of 32mm at its widest point. The socket is open at the back. The socket extends down onto a flat panel. The edge is curved at the base. The top is also curved, following the same line as the base. It appears that this is an original edge, which would make the blade a flat, circular panel.

Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Fragment of an iron spear-shaped object. It has an incomplete, conical socket with an external diameter of 22mm, though this is, of course, taken at an incomplete section; the original opening is likely to be wider. The blade angles at 45 degrees on either side from the socket, and then inwards to a point; the apex is missing. Overall the blade is likely to have been diamond shaped. The blade is offset, being flush with one side of the socket; on the opposite side the socket extends down onto the blade proper. Though corroded, the blade is seems to thick to be a spear.
The blade is…
