A cast lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to later Medieval date (43 - 1500 AD). The object is incomplete. It is sub-circular in plan and conical. The object has a central circular perforation with a small internal diameter of 7mm. The perforation appears to have been drilled from the lower face where it is wider measuring 11mm in diameter. Worn linear moulding decorates the upper surface. The edges of the object have been damaged both in recent times and during antiquity. The object has a mid white patina and is in fair condition. The object has a central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 10mm. Traces of very worn decoration on the upper surface consisting of pellets and lines are visible. The object has a mid white patina and is in fair condition. Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1100-1500.
