Record ID: LEIC-210888
Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Rutland
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete lead weight of uncertain date. The object is circular and perforated with a wide hole in the centre. This hole appears slightly worn at one side suggesting that the object was suspended at some point. It could possibly have been used as a spindle whorl, but seems too irregularly shaped to have functioned correctly. Because the object lacks diagnostic features it could easily date from the Roman to Modern period. Diameter: 24.5mm, thickness: 13.1mm, weight: 37.32g

Copper alloy coins [three] stuck together, of diameters 17.3mm, 15.1mm and 14.9mm. One (that of diameter 15.1mm) has an obverse indicating the group is likely to comprise 4th-century Nummi, probably of the House of Constantine (306-361). Other detail is obscured, though it seems likely these are from a larger group, as 'missing' coins have also marked these where they formerly overlapped. Suggested date: Late Roman, 330-361. Obverse description: Diademed bust right. Obverse inscription: DN C[---] Length (group): 24.9mm, Width:17.6mm, Weight: 4.33gms.
