A post medieval silver sixpence of Philip and Mary (AD 1554-1558), dating to AD 1555. The obverse depicts busts of Philip II of Spain and Mary I of England, facing one another, surmounted by a crown. The date 1555 is separated by thw crown. The inscription reads [PH]ILIP. ET. MARIA.D.G.REX.ET.REGI[NA].ANG. (Philip and Mary, by the grace of God, king and queen of England). The reverse depicts a crowned oval shield with the arms of England and Spain. The crown divides numerals XII - denoting the value. The inscription reads PO[SVIM]VS.DEVM.ADIVTOREM.NOS[TRVM].
