Fragment of a Roman copper alloy Umbonate plate brooch, the central boss with a minute fragment of the outer part, with two concentric rings of six formerly inlaid triangular cells around a central nipple. No enamel remains. Mackreth 2011, 164-5, Domed Boss type 6a or 6d. Extant diameter and width 16.5 and 20mm. 2nd century.

An incomplete copper alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date. The head is circular with an integral lug projecting from the reverse which accommodates an incomplete and corroded pin mechanism. Only two turns of the spring remain around a short length of axis bar and the pin proper no longer remains. The centre of the head extends into a circular sectioned bow which tapers in circumference to a worn break. Complete silver adjustable bracelet made from an undecorated wire, 3mm in diameter at the centre tapering towards the terminals, which overlap and twist around the hoop to fasten the bracelet. Commonly found made out of copper alloy, this form of expanding bracelet is a well-known type dating to the later 4th century (Barber & Bowsher, 2000, p199, B461.3-4; Clarke, 1979, p304, Type C1a). A fragment of a copper alloy Roman (AD 43-100) Colchester derivative brooch missing its spring, pin and most of the length of its bow. Overall it measures 8.75mm long, 23.95mm wide and 16.45mm thick. It weighs 4.42g. The wings are intact, with a total wingspan of 23.95mm. They are semi-circular in section measuring 5.15mm x 2.75mm thick. Separating the wings is a sub-rectangular lug projecting out from the back of the brooch, with a perforation in it for the spring to fit into. Incomplete and abraded Roman copper alloy Polden Hill brooch, spring, pin, parts of the head including most of a rear-facing hook, and the lower end of the bow missing. The ends of the axis bar remain within holes in the flat wing ends. Both wings are decorated with two pairs of grooves, one at the outer end, the other hard up against the bow. The D-sectioned bow is apparently undecorated. Wingspan 47.5mm. Extant length 33mm. c.55 - c.100.
