Post medieval copper alloy contemporary copy of a shilling of George III (1760-1820), dated 1817 on coin, Spink 3790. Besley and Boon (in Brennan 1991:15, no.28) report a similar copy and suggest they were relatively common in this period when people were still becoming familiar with the new style of coinage. Presumably it was silver plated, however, no traces are remaining. Weight: 4.07g, Diameter: 23.63mm, Thickness: 1.52mm.
Similar contemporary copies can be seen at: SOM-720190 & DEN-E286E1.
