A Roman silver denarius of Carausius (AD 286-293) (Reece Period 14). The obverse depicts the bust of an Emperor, in profile facing right. The reverse depicts the Emperor on horseback riding right. The position of this motif on the coin suggests there is a captive beneath the horse. This type is known from three specimens with the reverse inscription of ADVENTVS AVG (or similar), with the mintmark RSR. See WAW-D3B6B2 for one of these pieces. All will be published in the new RIC volume for Carausius. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.
