A complete lead or lead alloy artefact of uncertain function and dating. The artefact has one spherical end, resembling a musket ball. Attached to this is a circular sectioned sprue or handle with a flattened end. Casting lines are present, running the length of the artefact. It measures 39.4 mm in length, the ball has a diameter of 15.3 mm. The sprue 21.4 mm long, 9.4 mm wide and 5.1 mm thick. It weighs 26.0 g. The artefact is a light to mid grey colour, with an even surface patina. No direct parallel for this artefact has been found at the time of recording. It bears a r…

A lead alloy Medieval button of poor quality dating from AD 1200 - 1500. The front is a very shallowly angled cone and is decorated with a large central pellet with sixteen raised lines radiating from it, each terminating in a small pellet. There is a casting rib on the reverse, and projecting from the centre, an integral shank. This may be a mis-cast loop, or it may be a truncated shaft which would have terminated in an attachment loop. The button is similar to Figure 6.1 on page 17 of Buttons and Fasteners by Gordon Bailey.
