TREASURE CASE : 2014 T31. An incomplete silver spoon of post-medieval date. The spoon is broken into seven pieces and is incomplete. All that remains of the spoon is a portion of the bowl which is oval in plan with broken and worn edges and a concave section. A narrow handle with D-shaped section projects from the edge of the spoon bowl and tapers along its length to terminate in a worn break. A complete copper alloy mount of post-medieval date. The mount is in the form of a double six-petalled Tudor rose with small pointed lobes in the cusps. A circular perforation is present at the centre of the mount and the reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has a shiny reddish-brown patina and survives in good condition. The object is 25.6mm, 23.2mm wide, 2.4mm thick and weighs 4.7g.

An incomplete copper alloy scabbard chape of post-medieval date. The chape is sub-shield shaped with a swollen lower half and an inwardly curved top edge. The upper surface of the chape is decorated with an indistinct, possibly foliate, design with a twisted rope border to the top edge. The reverse is undecorated and has a lip around the edges, with the exception of the top edge. The metal has a dark blackish-green with traces of corrosion products on the surface. A complete copper alloy cosmetic mortar of Roman date. The mortar is an elliptical bow with a central grooved channel and low convex walls, a broad rounded keel and a U-shaped cross section. One end terminates in a round blunted point and the other end terminates in an integral suspension loop. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is worn. The mortar is 70.8mm long, 11.1mm wide, 6.6mm thick and weighs 13.5g. The mortar is one half of a cosmetic set, the other half would be a pestle, most probably used for grinding cosmetic material such as eye or face paint.

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 3500 - 2100 BC. The implement is a knife formed from a secondary flake which is cordate in plan and sub-D-shaped in section. Invasive retouch is present on the dorsal surface, shallow at the proximal portion but steepening towards the distal portion. The flint is a mid grey colour. The implement is 31.9mm long, 17.9mm wide, 4.7mm thick and weighs 2.9g.

A complete copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is a single looped D-shape with a lipped frame housing a recess for the pin. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed and the pin no longer remains. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 15.2mm long, 12.7mm wide, 3mm thick and weighs 0.9g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.21, no.75 and is dated to circa AD 1350 - 1450.

An incomplete copper alloy dress hook of post-medieval date. The hooked tag is of Reads Class E, Type 3 and consists of a moulded relief openwork plate featuring conjoined confronted spirals. A transverse ridge and ridged collar are present at the junction of the plate and hook from which a D-sectioned hook extends curving backwards and tapering to a point. A tear drop shaped lead alloy weight, of unknown date. The reverse of the weight is flat, but the front has rounded edges. The weight is undecorated, and has a perforated suspension hole through the top where it tapers. The lead is a light whitish-grey colour. It has a mass of 0.18oz or 80 grains. A lead alloy pendant in the form of a cross with bifurcated terminals, probably dating from the Medieval or Post Medieval periods. It is cut from a sheet of lead and one arm is longer than the others and has a rounded terminal, not bifurcated like the others. This terminal has also has a D shaped hole cut into the terminal, presumed to be for suspension though there is no evidence of wear on the edges of the hole. A flint tool; an end scraper probably dating from the Early Neolithic period (4000 - 3500 BC). It is sub-rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in section. The flint is mottled grey brown in colour and has a small piece of cortex surviving at the distal end on the dorsal face. The scraper is formed on a secondary blade with retouch on the distal end. The retouch is short, sub-parallel and abrupt across the whole of the distal end, which is straight. Compare examples in figure 50 on page 126 of Butler's Prehistoric Flintwork.
