Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL

An assembly of post medieval cast lead pistol or musket balls of very similar bore (1/2"). Each has an approximate diameter of 13mm, and weighs approximately 9.87g. The assembly numbers in the hundreds and they were all found more or less together in a coastal bank. The concentration is probably the result of some form of target shooting, probably in the Georgian period. The bore size and lack of rifling scars suggest a smooth bore pistol. A number of C17 wheel lock pistols had the same calibre. Dates to between c1600 and c1850 AD.
