A corroded iron wedge of uncertain date. The wedge is sub-rectangular in plan, tapering in width, towards the bottom end. The top is angled outwards and shows burring from repeated hammering. Wedges of this type and size have many uses, such as securing the drop side of a cart or agricultural implement. Length 92.68 mm. Width at top 22.60 mm. Width at bottom 13.89 mm. Thickness 4.91 mm. Weight 50 grams.

An incomplete Post-Medieval (probably 17th century) copper alloy rectangular buckle frame with central integral narrow bar and ornate outside edge (with moulded decoration), missing its pin. The long edges of the frame are slightly concave. The bar is c.1.5mm in diameter with a spot of iron staining, presumably from the missing pin. The outside edge is decorated along the long-sides with a facing head, possibly a cherub, at either end of the bar (the chin being nearest to the bar on each occasion). An incomplete Medieval (1150 - 1400) copper alloy oval buckle frame with ornate outside edge, missing its pin and possibly plate. It measures 13.42x16.91x3.39mm (internal 7.39x12.41mm) and weighs 1.32g. The bar is narrowed, offset and worn, possibly from the missing plate. The outside edge is thickened with a moulded knop either side of a groove for the pin to rest on. Egan & Pritchard (1991; p.77, fig.46) date oval buckle frames with ornate outside edges and plates between 1150 and 1400.

An Early Post-Medieval (1550-1650) copper alloy double-oval buckle frame with ornate outside edge, complete with pin. It measures 49.36x21.66mm (internal loops c.15x14mm) and weighs 8.29g. The buckle has a triangular knop at the centre of each outside edge. One has a central groove for the pin, the other a decorative V-shaped groove flanking its triangular profile. An incomplete copper alloy dress hook of post-medieval date. The dress hook is of Reads Class E, Type 5 being trefoil in plan. The main plate is an open work trefoil design with a D-shaped section and an integral D-shaped sectioned hook extending from the lower curved edge of the bottom loop of the knot. An incomplete copper alloy rowel spur of post-medieval date. The spur consists of a circular sectioned neck which splits to form the rowel box with perforations with which to secure the rowel. The neck extends and forks to form curved arms with a D-shaped section, one of which terminates in a worn break. The other arm terminates in a figure-of-eight loop. The metal has a mid reddish-brown patina and is worn. The spur is 62.6mm long, 15.6mm wide, 3.3mm thick and weighs 33.6g.

The rounded body bears raised rays on both sides, in imitation of the surface of the cockle shell associated with the cult of St James of Compostella. Cast - probably hollow cast given the form - flat base of a small vial or canister with a diameter greater than that of its base; the sides become very thin towards the limit of their surviving extent. The outer surface of the object is gilded, most extensively on its base, with tiny spots of gilding retained on the sides. Corroded and heavily patinated clear of gilding. Copper alloy pin. Slightly tapered round section shank of maximum diameter 2.4mm with an elongated bead and reel collar surmounted by an elongated ovoid head. The lower part of the collar is flattened, perhaps by hammering, so as to achieve a rectilinear section. The shank is lightly bent, and possibly missing its tip. Pins of this form and weight are likely to have served for fastening hair, a function possibly related to the bending of the shank. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410.
