Lead alloy ampulla. Hollow cast ampulla or bag shaped vessel, with the stubs of torn handles where rounded vessel meets the splayed neck. The rounded body bears raised rays on both sides, in imitation of the surface of the cockle shell associated with the cult of St James of Compostella. This imitation is more direct than is often the case, is unaccompanied by other visible decoration or lettering, and these features may hint at a relatively early date in the series of similar badges. The aperture at the top is now open. Patinated overall. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1350. Hei…

Copper alloy pin. Slightly tapered round section shank of maximum diameter 2.4mm with an elongated bead and reel collar surmounted by an elongated ovoid head. The lower part of the collar is flattened, perhaps by hammering, so as to achieve a rectilinear section. The shank is lightly bent, and possibly missing its tip. Pins of this form and weight are likely to have served for fastening hair, a function possibly related to the bending of the shank. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410. Length: 37.8mm, Diameter (head): 6.6mm, Weight: 2.55gms.
