Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is D-shaped in plan and ovate in section. The ventral surface is smooth with the bulb of percussion and striking platform having been removed. Numerous irregular flakes have been removed from the dorsal surface and short, abrupt, stepped retouch is present along the distal portion. The flint is a dark grey colour. The implement is 20.7mm long, 26.8mm wide, 6.9mm thick and weighs 4.4g.

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is sub-ovate in plan and ovate in section. The ventral surface is smooth with the bulb of percussion and striking platform having been removed. Numerous irregular flakes have been removed from the dorsal surface and short, abrupt, parallel retouch is present along the distal portion. The flint is a mid grey colour with chalky inclusions. The implement is 22.6mm long, 16.4mm wide, 7.9mm thick and weighs 2.8g.

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 3500 - 2100 BC. The implement is a multi-purpose tool comprising a blade and scraper formed from a tertiary flake. The implement is sub-ovate in plan and D-shaped in section with a visible bulb of percussion and bulbar scar on the ventral surface. Ripples of percussion are also present. Four long flakes have been removed from the dorsal surface which displays prominent negative scars and corresponding arises. The proximal end displays short, abrupt, parallel retouch which extends into the mesal edges. The flint is a mid g

A probable flint end scraper. The scraper is a secorndary flake with cortex along the right edge. It is sub-triangular in plan. There is probable retouch along the distal edge, it is scaled, short and semi-abrupt. There is a bulb of purcussion on the ventral side on the left edge. There is no retouch on the dorsal face. The scraper is sub-triangular in section. The flint is light grey in colour. This scraper probably dates to the early Neolithic period as it was found alongside other early Neolithic scrapers: KENT-683436, KENT-67A108, KENT-68C136. Length: 49.20mm, Width: 37.50mm, T…

A flint disc scraper. The scraper is a primary flake as cortex is covering the majority of the dorsal face, cortex also covers the distal end. The ventral face has no remaining ripple marks and it is unclear where the flake was hit to remove it from the core. There is short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch around approximately 75% of the edge of the scraper. The scraper is D-shaped to semi-circular in section. The flint is white-grey to mid-brown in clolour. Disc scrapers date from the early Neolithic period. Length:63.78mm, Width: 58.07mm, Thickness: 22.69mm, Weight: 87.45g.

A flint end and side scraper. The scraper has some remaining cortex on the dorsal face at the proximal end and so is a secondary flake. No ripple marks can be seen on the ventral face and there is only sight evidence of the bulb of purcussion on the ventral face on the proximal end. There is short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch on the left, right and disal edges of the scraper. There is some invasive, scaled, low angle retouch on the dorsal face. The scraper is sub-triangular in section from the proximal end and D-shaped from the distal end. The flint is light grey to light brown in col…

A flint side scraper. The scraper is sub-rectangular in plan with some remaining cortex on the dorsal side at the distal end and so is a secondary flake. Ripple marks can be seen on the ventral face and there is a bulb of purcussion on the proximal edge on the ventral face. The dorsal face does not appear to have been shaped. The left edge has short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt retouch all the way along it. There are further marks on the dorsal and ventral faces that are natural. The scraper is sub-rectangular in profile. It is mid-brown in colour and semi-transulcent. Side scrapers are…
