An incomplete post-medieval cast copper-alloy strap-fitting. The artefact consists of a blunt hook, bent slightly to one side, which holds a separate pendent ring. Above the hook the mount is sub oval with two lugs above that bifurcate forming a V shape. Beyond this is mount is broken, so that it is now incomplete. The mount was attached by a single iron rivet in the centre of the oval element, just below the bifurcation, the corroded remains of which are still present in the fitting. Report for H M Coroner Bottesford (addenda), Lincolnshire Richard Abdy 4 AR denarii to AD 207 - see also NLM-ADA762, NLM-C03203 and NLM-28BC26 (with a fifth, stray coin at NLM-28CBD5). Circumstances of discovery These addenda were found whilst metal-detecting on a number of occasions between 1997 - 2013. The original find was a Severan denarius hoard (tpq AD 207) consisting of 165 coins (and eleven pottery sherds from a greyware globular jar). This was published by J. Williams and V. Copper alloy plate brooch with enamel traces, Mackreth type PL CONT 9.b. A flat disc with six equidistantly spaced discoid cells projecting from its outer edge. Circumferential decoration of the plate comprises an outer band of bordered and billeted relief decoration, a sunken zone or cell retaining (now) red traces of colorant, and a plain central zone with central aperture of diameter 2.7mm, which probably retained a separate projecting boss, now lost (cf. Late Iron Age to early Roman iron and copper alloy composite linch pin with square-sectioned shank, barrel-shaped head and hoof-shaped foot. The circular head and the foot are both cast with a chord missing. All inlaid enamel has been lost apart from on the face of the hoof.
