A complete silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558 - 1603) dating to 1582. North Number 1997. The bust on the obverse is very unclear but is a crowned and left with a rose behind. The legend reads ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HIB REGINA. The reverse depicts a square shield over a long cross fourchée with 1582 above. The legend reads POSVI/DEV AD/IVTORE/M MEV. The initial mark is a bell. There is damage across the centre of the coin suggesting that the coin was folded but has now been straightened.
