A Medieval adjustable and folding sheet copper-alloy candleholder (c. 1300-c. 1500). This holder consists of five separate sheet copper-alloy elements soldered together. The cup that held the candle is sub-conical in form with its narrower end at the bottom. It has an overlapping vertical join. The rim is decorated with continuous oblique grooves. Obverse: +ROS+ RA+ (fictitious repeating legend); Rose formed of pellets Reverse: Triple stranded long cross botonnee with a flowery symbol in each quadrant; flowery symbols (rather than a legend) form a border Diameter: 20.2mm. Part of a hollow round-sectioned copper alloy tube with a conical or elongated acorn-shaped terminal. The remains of an iron rod fill up the socket. Two grooves encircle the start of the terminal and its surface is decorated in 'wrythen' style with eleven curving spiral engraved grooves. Perhaps the handle of some sort of lmedieval to post-medieval implement. Overall length 34.5mm. Diameter of tube 6.5mm, of iron rod c.5.5mm, of terminal 10.4 - 11.2mm. Perhaps mid 15th - 16th century.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman plate brooch, c. 2nd century AD. The plate brooch is sub-conical in profile with most of its circumference missing due to old breaks; the rest of the brooch body remains, including traces of enamel and the hinge mechanism and pin are intact on the reverse. The remains of the brooch consist of a small segment of the circular flattened low flange with an outer rim of copper alloy and a thick band directly inside of the circumference inlaid with white or light blue enamel; most of this flange is missing due to old breaks. Partly distorted post-medieval sheet copper alloy 'eye' plate, the female part of a two-part book clasp. The eye is formed by two small projections wrapped around a separate spindle. A terminal with three cusps takes up the opposite end. The sides converge gently from the terminal and then run parallel to abrupt outward-turning offsets before the eye. One rivet hole near the eye is set amidst a group of short engraved longitudinal lines. Another near the terminal is in the centre of double concentric punched rings. Close to SUSS-486743. Length 37mm. Width 23mm. 16th - early 17th century.
