A worn and corroded dove horseshoe of the Medieval period. Both branches are equal in form, with three well-defined, rectangular nail holes to each branch. One nail head survives in situ and appears to be either a French horse nail or a spike nail ( also known as a frost nail) The heels are inclined and tapered, with no evidence of calkins. The shoe is flat in section but is a little distorted. Probably a saddle shoe of circa late thirteenth century.

A sherd of pottery from the rim of a Roman vessel. The vessel is Severn Valley Ware. The fabric is orange with a wide grey core, indicating it was fired under reduced conditions. The surface is pitted. There are inclusions of red-brown grit, black grit and grey grit, coal, pieces of quartz and a spread of micra. The vessel wall flares outwards towards the rim which is simply rounded without a lip. The wall varies in thickness from 9.8mm to 10.4mm thick. The fragment weighs 22.9g, and is 37mm wide by 36mm tall.

A sherd of pottery from the rim of a Post Medieval open bowl. This rim is rounded, protuding on the outside to form a beaded lip. The sherd extends for the full height, 26mm, of the bowl and includes a bit of the base. The sherd is less than 5% of the circumference making the bowl diameter hard to measure. The fabric is hard and course being orange in colour. On the outer surface are patcehs of olive green glaze and larger areas of grey residue from the glaze. A worn and corroded iron keyhole type horseshoe with equal branches and the heels inclined. The shoe is flat, with no evidence of fullering. Due to corrosion deposits, only three nail holes are evident, with only one presumed T-shaped nail surviving in situ. Both heels are tapered;one branch is thickened and there is no evidence of calkins. The shoe is distorted and is probably a draught shoe of circa 1650-1700.

Possibly late Roman copper alloy strap fitting, a bar-mount with rounded edges and convex ends, three rivet holes and six punched ring-and-dots. Two holes impinge on two punched impressions, but whether perforations or decoration were made first is uncertain. The impressions are not very evenly spaced. No good parallel has been noted. Length 29.5mm. Width 5.8mm. Thickness 1.1mm. Perhaps 4th century.

A medieval copper alloy purse bar which consists of a an oval suspension loop at the top, central boss and bar. The boss at the centre of the bar is shield shaped and has a linear decoration in the form of engraved cross hatching. The ends of the bar have broken away on each side. The item dates from the 14th to the 15th centuries. A similar example can be seen in the Salisbury Museum catalogue, fig 27, number 170, p134.

Incomplete Roman copper alloy plate brooch, probably a disc but without any original edge extant. Most of the hinged pin, part of the catchplate, and a central separate stud missing. The front is decorated with five concentric grooved rings in which there is no sign of inlay. The areas between the rings are tinned. This decoration is reminiscent of Hattatt 2000, fig. 201 no. 1008, but there is no evidence here for lugs. Extant diameter 21mm. c.43 - c.100.

There is a single flute and groove at the end of the wing(s). Details of decoration on the round-sectioned bow have largely been removed by abrasion. Estimated wingspan 41mm. Fragment of a medieval copper alloy flat mount with an integral round-sectioned rivet on the reverse. Two sides are scalloped, the other a break. The reverse is slight recessed. The shape of the complete object is unknown. Both surfaces are dull purplish. Extant length 24mm. Width 20mm. Thickness 2mm. Thickness including length of rivet 7.5mm. No good parallel noted. Perhaps 12th - 13th century.

A medieval to post-medieval copper alloy saddle pommel fragment of 16th to 17th century date. The item is one half of a two-part pommel which was cast separately in two identical parts and then probably soldered together. The half is U-shaped in plan and convex and open semi-circular in cross-section. The exterior surface of the pommel is decorated with a series of vertical grooves which follow the shape of the item. There are two circular holes towards the open end; these are presumably for attachment. A similar two-piece example can be seen in Brian Read's 'History Beneath our Feet'…

Three pottery sherds from a Roman vessel. These sherds are Severn Valley Ware. The fabric is orange buff in colour with a grey core Two of the sherds fit together and have a decorative rib that runs horizontal to the vesel. The semi circular rib is about 3mm high and 6mm wide. The vessel wall is 5.8mm thick. This fragments weigh 4.15g, 2.72g and 1.84g.
