An incomplete part of a post-Medieval copper-alloy two-part toggle clasp (eye-section) of Read Type 1 from a sword belt (1500-1700). Read 2008: 208-209, refs: 753-755. This part is the eye through which the toggle on the corresponding section would have fitted. The object is broadly rectangular and flat and the rectangular hole measures 12.25 x 6.40 mm internally. At one end of the hole a transverse ridge and beyond there is an incomplete rivet hole. At the opposite end the plate is curved in end profile. The token is decorated on one face with a possible mill sail; the other face is undecorated. The token measures 19.36 mm diameter at the widest point and is 2.42 mm thick and weighs 4.78 grams. Tokens had a wide variety of uses and were easy to manufacture; they are therefore difficult to date specifically outside of secure archaeological contexts. Tokens with simplistic designs had considerable longevity and could date from c. 1250-1800 AD.
