A flint blade of probable Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date. The blade is sub-rectangular, a natural flaw in the flint causing a right-angled projection at the distal end. Two vertical arrises on the dorsal surface create a trapezoidal profile. At the proximal end, there is a clear bulb-of-percussion beneath a portion of the core platform. Adjacent to this is what appears to be part of a second platform, suggesting that this may come form a multi-platform core. Part of the core platform is visible at the proximal end, with an adjacent bulb-of-percussion on the ventral surface. Several narrow blade removal scars extend longitudinally on the dorsal surface, and the blade has a trapezoidal section at the point of the break. The flint is a lightly patinated dark grey. Stamped lead cloth seal with only one disc and two stubs from the attachment strip on the back remaining. The seal has a raised spade-shaped shield with a central band or 'fesse' with three woolpacks or 'madderbags' between two fields of what look like berries with foliage above them. The shield has then been overstamped with a raised 'X' within a recessed square which may be a privy mark. The 'X' may represent the number 10 and may be referring to the number of washes to increase the intensity of the red dye, but is more likely to refer to the weight of the madder bag in pounds. E…

Incomplete post-medieval copper alloy rowel spur, both D-sectioned sides lacking their terminals, the rowel and part of the box missing. Punched decoration on the sides was executed with arc-shaped impressions of various diameters, in a fern-like pattern, in rows and tight groups.The curving form of the neck is close to that of Margeson 1993, no. 1799 and 1800. Width or height at heel (junction of sides) 13.5mm. First half 17th century.
