Copper alloy object, probably a fitting from a harness or similar. The object is a circular sectioned and broadly circular in plan loop with a rounded tab extending from one point of the frame. A circular sectioned bar with a narrowed middle projects from this tab, terminating in an expanded, rounded knop. The upper face of the fitting has two parallel chevrons incised at the point where the tab extends from the frame.
It measures 24.1mm in width, 33.8mm in length, 9.4mm in thickness and weighs 5.72G. The object has a mid brown patina and a Post Medieval date is suggested (1500-1800 AD).

Post-medieval copper alloy button with an integral drilled loop: biconical, hollow openwork head with a small central nipple and engraved lines between six triangular perforations on the front face, and with six similar perforations on the rear face. Comparable with Baart et al. 1977, 185, no.235, Margeson 1993, 20-2, fig. 11 no.102 and Read 2005, 30, no. 93. Diameter 11mm. Length 17.7mm. 16th century.

Post Medieval saddle pommel in the form of an asymmetric, cast copper alloy. cup, now in two halves, each face decorated with two pairs of oblique, incised lines with further lines around the open mouth an area which shows signs of breakage. There is a small projection at the top of the cup. This object appears to have been made in two halves which were originally soldered together. Length 44.0mm, Width 41.2mm, Thickness 21.0mm, Section 1.9mm, Mass 34.47g These object form part of the fittings of a post Medieval wooden framed saddle.

Distorted fragment of a Roman copper alloy bracelet, broken at both ends. Over most of the length the cross-section is ovoid (3.8 x 3mm) but towards one end it becomes sub-rectangular (4.3 x 1.8mm at the break). The outer face of this stretch is decorated with two engraved lines that diverge towards the break. Between them there are two punched ring-and-dots and a third is truncated by the break. Extant length 74mm. 3rd - 4th century.

A rim sherd from an Oxfordshire red-slipped ware bowl, dating from the 3rd or 4th century AD.
The rim rolls outwards from the sloping wall of the vessel and has an angular distal end. The core of the fabric is dark grey, the surface is orange and no trace of slip remains.

Incomplete Late Saxon copper alloy finger ring with flat, undecorated, lozengiform bezel. The hoop of rectangular cross-section tapers away from the bezel to the breaks. Beyond these the ends would have been wound around each other (cf. Goodall, A.R. in Rogerson and Dallas 1984, fig. 110 nos. 12 and 13). Width of bezel 8.5mm. Width of hoop at the breaks 1mm. Diameter not measurable. c.850 - c.1100.

Two body sherds from ceramic vessels.
Both irregular sherds are made from a heavily shell-tempered fabric, the smaller having a light grey core and light pinkish-brown surface, the larger darker grey with an orangey-brown surface.
Total weight of assemblage: 50.77g.
Chris Green (pers. comm.) suggests the roughly finished surfaces on these sherds indicate a probable Medieval date.
