Record ID: HAMP-1BEE42
Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An unidentified and undatable copper alloy terminal with flattened solid boss and socketed neck beyond a waisted section below. There is a possible very worn screw thread visible on the inside of the socket, suggesting a Post-Medieval or Early-Modern date. However the dark green patination and brighter green copper alloy corrosion on the waisted section suggest a Roman date. Measures 12.02mm in length, 10.61mm in max width (also diameter of the flattened boss), 8.45mm wide at the waisted section and c.6mm in diameter inside the socket end. Weighs 4.44g.

Object type: CLOTH SEAL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Post-Medieval (1600-1700) lead cloth seal, missing the outer edge of disc one and with the connecting strip bent behind disc two. It is bent. The cloth seal is of a type associated with imports from Haarlem in the Netherlands of a fine linen known in England as 'holland' (Egan 1994, 110; ref. 321). Disc 1 bears a moulded shield with the city arms: sword erect, four mullets to sides, cross potent in chief. Other similar cloth seals are inscribed around the edge 'HAERLEMS GOET' ('goods from Haarlem'). Although this example is rather worn there is perhaps the trace of two l…

Mid to late Bronze Age mottled mid to late grey chert burin, possibly also used as a chisel. It is sub square in section and knapped in the crude fashion diagnostic of the later Bronze Age The knapping toward the proximal is more controlled than that of end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age. With the exception of the proximal end, where cortex remains, there are removals to the entire surface. The knapping toward the proximal narrows and shapes the section in a manner that suggests it was originally mounted on the end of a piece of wood or antler. Dating to between c…

A very worn copper alloy coin weight for a gouden vlies (golden fleece) issued in the Burgundian Netherlands by Philips de Schone and Karl V (1496 - 1516). It should weigh 4.49 grams. The weight dispalys a pair of firesteels above a golden fleece, a golden fleece, i.e., the body of a ram suspended from the two steels as it appears on the chain of the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, which is below the central arms on the coin. This is the first such coin weight recognised in the United Kingdom.
