An incomplete Post Medieval / early modern (probable 18th century) silver cufflink. The cufflink element extant is one part of a single cufflink or cufflink element / disc. It consists of a single pressed silver octagonal disc with soldered angular D shaped attachment loop / staple on the reverse. The hoop would have originally been linked by an elongated oval silver wire loop which would have been threaded through the attachment hoops. It is now crushed against the rear of the plate. The front disc of the link is slightly domed with turned down edges and a concave reverse. The design…

Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete fragment from a cast copper alloy hooked strap fitting of probable post medieval (1500-1700). The upper edge of the fitting is lost - it is formed from a sheet of copper alloy and been bent / folded to form a U shaped hook - the hook is the widest part terminating in a wide sub-triangular wedge. There are no rivet holes present - and therefore the plate probably extended from the broken edge and it is here that it would be fitted to the strap. The strap fitting is a mid-light green colour with an uneven abraded patina. This abrasion has removed much of the surface and d…

A lead alloy shot / ball for use in a musket or pistol of post medieval 1600-1800 date. The shot is circular / spherical in shape with a relatively even surface. The colour of ball is a cream grey. Similar shot have been dated to the later post medieval period however the date range should extend into the early modern period as similar projectiles were used in firearms throughout this period. Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy foot from an early post-medieval cooking vessel. The object is 'clawed', with five moulded ribs, the central one being the widest, and a transverse collar above. The object is broken just above this 'ankle', revealing a leg of broadly triangular cross-section. The back is flat. The base is worn at an angle suggestive of use wear. The object has become slightly corroded and pitted post-deposition, and seems to be largely coated in a black lacquer. This form of foot is comparable to the that published in Butler et al. (2009, 4; ref. 4c) dated to the 17th century.
