An incomplete, worn and bent post-Medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame (c. 1500-c. 1650). The pin is missing. It is convex at the front and flat at the rear. The loops are of similar size and shape and the outer edges are angled to form triangular points. Both loops are steeply bevelled internally. At the front, it is plain and there is a minor groove at each outer edge to serve as a pin rest. The central narrowed bar is triangular in cross-section. The surfaces are drab matt green and there are traces of a white metal coating at the front, probably tinning. Leng…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Roman copper alloy brooch. The front part consists of a circular wheel-like design with six roughly triangular sunken panels defined by six 'spokes' within a circular rim. Traces of lighter coloured material within the panels suggest they originally contained enamel. At the centre of the circle is a raised hemispherical knob with a small corresponding knob on the rear face suggesting it was attached separately through a central hole. The edges surrounding the front part are defined by two straight edges on each side and a broken upper edge. The rear part of the brooch is…

An unpatinated and part polished flint axehead of Neolithic date. It is struck from a dark grey/brown flint and has relatively straight sides with a pointed-oval shaped cross section. The blade end is roughly crescentic in form but has suffered from some damage to the cutting edge itself resulting in uneven flake removal. Both faces have extensive and fine flake removal and the remains of polished surfaces are visible particularly in higher areas of the faces and towards the blade ends. Areas of polishing at the blade end towards the end of flake scars indicates that it was probably n…

Object type: SPOON
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
The terminal and part of the shank of a cast copper alloy probable spoon handle, dating to the post-medieval period. The terminal has a small rounded knop beneath which is a larger globular swelling, with two smaller expanded collars beneath. From here the shank, which is rectangular in section, extends for approximately 26.35mm before the break. This terminal was found not far from a rectangular-sectioned pin shank (BERK-58D627), however the thickness of the two shanks is not the same suggesting that they are not part of one and the same object but belong separately.
